About Us

Al Frisch is the owner of Hollywood Guns & Props. Al, a retired Lieutenant from the L.A. County Sheriff’s Department, is a recognized western historian and firearms expert. He has consulted with and trained numerous groups involved in overseeing the use of firearms in film production.

Recently both the society for the prevention of cruelty to animals (SPCA) and the U.S. National Park Service sought his input and training regarding safety issues and practices pertinent to the use of firearms and motion picture blank ammunition.

From 2003 to 2005, Al was a technical adviser on The History Channel’s “Wild West Tech” series as well as a regular on-screen historical expert. Hollywood Guns & Props provided most of the wardrobe, props, guns, gun leather and set dressing for much of the series.

Hollywood Guns & Props has been a supplier to many feature films. HGP provided over two hundred firearms to the Morgan Creek production of “American Outlaws.”

In 2005, HGP created and supplied virtually all of the Native American and Mountain Men deer hide wardrobe for Steven Spielberg’s acclaimed mini-series “Into The West.” And the series was nominated for an Emmy for outstanding costume design in a mini-series. This film required over 1200 costumes to be custom made. HGP also provided costumes for another Spielberg production in 2005. A mini-series about the CIA entitled “The Company”, which required 1950’s period Russian military costumes for a Hungarian revolution sequence.

HGP provided all the custom made chaps, boots, as well as miscellaneous spur straps, hatbands, and cuffs worn by the ranch crew in Tom Selleck’s 2003 TNT production of “Monte Walsh”

From 2006 thru 2008 HGP provided wardrobe, props, set dressing, and armoring services for 10 Hallmark Television movies (six of these were westerns) which were produced by Larry Levinson Productions.

Al and his crew have the knowledge and experience to make your next production look great!
